MARCOM Session Spotlight – Best Practices for Branding in the Public Sector

Best Practices for Branding in the Public Sector: avoiding the pitfalls and learning from others

We live in a competitive environment; competing for people’s time, attention and trust. Public sector organizations must work harder to secure fundamental relationships with their audiences which is at the heart of branding.

In the commercial sector branding is pervasive and fairly easy to implement and recognize. In the public sector branding is not as common but is gaining popularity through its ability to create both visibility and memorability.

The real challenges for public sector branding are complex reporting structures, bureaucracy and decision-making which prohibits the needed 360-degree alignment of activities, full senior management commitment and a timely monitoring effort to ensure proper implementation. Added to this, there is confusion surrounding branding marketing communications campaigns and branding programs for entire departments, agencies etc.

Josef Jurkovic, Partner & Director at the Centre for Excellence in Communications, and Jim Mintz, Managing Partner, Centre of Excellence for Public Sector Marketing, with their many decades of experience in public sector marketing will discuss the challenges of branding in this sector and outline what works and what doesn’t.

Where: MARCOM Annual Forum, Ottawa Convention Centre
When: Wednesday, June 1 @ 10:15am

Listen, Engage Collaborate: the power of crowdsourcing from an internal prospective

This session will educate participants on effective uses of crowdsourcing within their organizations to better understand a particular audience and solve problems through collaboration, all the while, working towards improving internal engagement.

Using best practices and lessons learned from the Service Canada Centres for Youth Social Media Pilot, Pierre Bisson (Manager, Marketing Services, Marketing Directorate, Service Canada) and Jon Juane (Marketing Officer, Marketing Directorate, Service Canada) will also provide participants with insight and strategies to effectively use social media within their own working environment.

When: Wednesday, June 1 @ 11:30am

If you have a question for Pierre and Jon, send it in advance or during the presentation using Twitter hastags #SCCY2 (English) or #CSCJ2 (French).
